Have you ever wondered how it would be like to hypnotize anyone just by operating to them? Imagine talking to someone in a standard conversation and getting them to do somewhat that properties had no intention of doing. Does this sound like magic or fantasy?
Would you believe it if I told you that this practice of hypnotizing people 'secretly' or happens all of the time? Now, before you think that there's no possible way to hypnotize anyone with out the person knowing it,let me clarify what I mean by 'hypnotize.' I'm not talking about sitting or laying down in a dimly lit room listening to a soft soothing voice as you drift into a state of total relaxation.
What I mean by hypnosis is literally going up to an individual, whether it's a complete stranger or someone you know, and talking to them just like you would with anyone else that you talk to on a daily basis. The difference is that in these hypnotic conversations you would be using the same language patterns and hypnotic techniques that are used in traditional hypnosis, but you would use them in a conversational way. And although the person you were speaking with would consciously hear every word of the conversation, the subconscious hypnotic commands that you would use would fly completely under their radar.
In an experiment designed by psychologist John Bargh, subjects were asked to make a four word sentence out of five words as quickly as possible. Give it a try:
1. is a fruit wrinkled raisin
2. from are oranges Florida sweet
3. fruit wrinkled raisin is a
Does this seem like a pretty easy exercise? Well, the subjects that completed it thought so too. What they didn't realize was that the researchers were measuring something completely different. What they found was that the subjects that completed this exercise actually walked out of the testing room and down the hallway slower than when they walked in.
what slowed the subjects down, you might ask? Well, according to the researchers, the reason was a couple of words that were hiding in plain site- namely, the words 'old', 'Florida', 'wrinkled', and 'gray'. It seems that although the subjects were not impacted by these words consciously, subconsciously the words had a totally different effect. The words brought on the feeling of 'old' and the subjects (without knowing it or making a conscious decision to do so) acted accordingly and took on temporarily the characteristics of feeling old. Hence the slower pace when leaving the room than when entering.
What's interesting about the study is the fact that these words were hiding in plain site- they weren't disguised or in some way manipulated to get the attention of the subjects. As a matter of fact just the opposite occurred- the 'hypnotic' words were blended right in with 'regular' words. Now, I say the "hypnotic words" meaning "old, Florida, gray, wrinkled' but these words are no more 'hypnotic' than any of the other words on the page. I'd even be willing to bet that you've probably used the words "Florida, gray, wrinkled, and old" before.
The gentleman generally regarded as the father of modern psychological hypnosis is Dr. Milton Erickson, a world renowned medical doctor and therapist. Erickson developed his ability to hypnotize anyone to such a high degree that he could literally hypnotize anyone just by talking to them or telling them a story. Of course, the patient or listener would hear the story consciously but be completely unaware of the subconscious commands and suggestions that Erickson was planting into the story.
Chances are you already know and use the words that you would use to start to hypnotize someone subconsciously. How can I know this about you? Well, have you ever used the words "gray, old, wrinkled, Florida" as in the example above? Of course you have! It's not about learning new words or 'hypnotic words'; it's about using the words that you already know in such a way as to engage the conscious mind so that you can deliver a particular hypnotic suggestion or command to the subconscious mind. Once you master this skill then it is only a question of practice until you can hypnotize anyone just by talking to them! These hypnosis techniques are like nothing you've ever seen or heard about.
